Overview & Specifications

Synthetic α-Quartz Wafers

Our quartz wafers start from qualified synthetic α-quartz material, sourced and verified before entering our in-house slicing, lapping, polishing and inspection line. The material offers an extremely low temperature coefficient and high Q value — properties that make it the substrate of choice for frequency-critical and timing applications where temperature drift must be minimized.

Cut Types

Available Cut Types

Each cut type is made by rotating the quartz plate a specific angle relative to the crystal's X, Y and Z axes. Different rotation angles produce different vibration modes, frequency ranges and temperature-stability characteristics. The eight cuts below are our current standard offering — other cut angles can be produced to order, so if your design calls for a cut not listed here, contact us to confirm feasibility.

AT-Cut quartz wafer diagram, singly-rotated Y-cut, thickness-shear mode

1–300 MHz. The most widely used cut — best overall temperature stability and cost.

BT-Cut quartz wafer diagram, singly-rotated Y-cut, thickness-shear mode

10–70 MHz. Thicker than AT at the same frequency — more mechanically robust.

ST-Cut quartz wafer diagram, singly-rotated Y-cut, SAW mode

50 MHz–3 GHz. Optimized for surface acoustic wave devices, not bulk resonance.

SC-Cut quartz wafer diagram, doubly-rotated, stress-compensated

0.5–200 MHz. Low sensitivity to mounting stress and thermal shock — OCXO standard.

IT-Cut quartz wafer diagram, doubly-rotated, thickness-shear mode

1–200 MHz. Between AT and SC — faster warm-up at high ambient temperatures.

CT-Cut quartz wafer diagram, singly-rotated Y-cut, face-shear mode

30–100 kHz. Low frequency constant — suited to large, low-frequency plates.

DT-Cut quartz wafer diagram, singly-rotated Y-cut, face-shear mode

100–500 kHz. Mirror counterpart to CT-cut, with fewer spurious modes.

GT-Cut quartz wafer diagram, dual width-extensional mode

100 kHz–3 MHz. Flattest frequency-temperature curve of any quartz cut, wide temp range.

Angle values shown are standard reference figures for common quartz cut types; IT-Cut's precise rotation angle is not independently confirmed and is shown without a specific figure. Diagrams illustrate the general slicing concept and are not to exact scale. These eight cuts are our current standard offering — additional cut orientations can be produced to order; contact us for datasheet-level specifications on a specific or custom cut.
